What is Word Building
Many children can say the alphabet, but do not understand the letters can be built into words.
In this video we show you how to introduce word building to your child by putting individual letter sounds together to make phonetic words. This is a pre-reading exercise in preparation for reading.
If you are unsure of the sounds of the letters please go to our website to see the video pronouncing each sound.
We suggest starting with consonant-vowel-consonant phonetic words.
Materials Needed:
To introduce word building to your child you will need multiples of the alphabet Letter Cards (with the vowels in a different colour), and Picture Cards with consonant-vowel-consonant words, and longer phonetic words.
Instructions:
Follow the steps in the video introducing how to identify the beginning, middle, and final sounds of words.
