Why working with your child is so important
Understanding letters are blended together to make words is an important step towards reading. In this exercise you teach your child how to identify the sounds and build them into words to match the picture cards.
You have introduced your child to the alphabet letters and beginning sounds of words with the picture cards, they are now ready to start word building in preparation for reading. This is a foundational step in reading and spelling.
Success in reading is based upon the foundational skills being put into place. Each step strengthens your child’s understanding and confidence preparing them for the classroom.
Early exposure in a fun and safe environment means your child is developing an understanding of foundational skills to build upon. If your child has an awareness of letter sounds making words, they are more likely to understand what is being taught in the classroom. Being prepared for kindergarten means your child has the advantage of understanding learning.
Research shows that the best predictor for success in school is a readiness for learning by kindergarten age. At Earlyminds we design and make materials to build an understanding of the foundational skills needed to prepare for preschool and through kindergarten, grade one, and grade two.
