What are Quantities and Symbols?
Many children can count from 1 to 20, but do not understand what the numbers represent.
This Earlyminds Numbers 11 – 20 set was developed to help you teach your child the number symbols, the quantities they represent, and the sequence of numbers. In 11 – 20 your child learns about the place value of more than ten, represented with tens and ones.
Each set has 20 Colour Rulers, 10 Number Cards and step by step instructions. You can purchase the download, print it, and start using it straight away.
There is a number direction guide to help you teach your child the correct formation of numbers.
Why working with your child is important
Understanding what happens to numbers and quantities when they become ‘more than ten’ is an important step in the relationship between the number symbol and its place value. In this exercise you build upon the previous exercises of numbers 1 – 10, teaching your child how to represent the numbers with 2 rulers, giving a practical representation of the place value, and the sequence of numbers from 1 through to 20.
The ability to comfortably recognise the numbers and quantities builds early success and confidence in preparation for activities in the classroom. The more comfortable your child is the more likely they are to enjoy and understand mathematical concepts.
Early exposure in a fun and safe environment means your child is developing an understanding of foundational skills to build upon. If your child has an awareness of the relationship between number symbols and quantities they are more likely to understand what is being taught in the classroom. Being prepared for school means your child has the advantage of understanding learning.
Research shows that the best predictor for success in school is a readiness for learning by kindergarten age. At Earlyminds we design and make materials to build an understanding of the foundational skills needed to prepare for preschool and through kindergarten, grade one, and grade two.
